Dear Grace letters
Dear GraceHello Grace my name is Jack McAuliffe, I am eleven years old. I was born in Letterkenny General Hospital. I live in Sunnybank, Kill, Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal, Ireland. I have one sister called Ava, she is eight years old. My mum and dad’s name are Honor and Sean. My birthday is on the 21st of October 2000. I have one dog called Lily, she is a brown Labrador. I support Barcelona and Celtic, I have gone to one Celtic match but I haven’t been to a Barcelona match yet. I go to Faugher N.S. My teacher in Faugher is Master Murray, I am in 5th class. I like school, Master Murray is my favourite teacher. I will be very sad in December because our teacher Master Murray is retiring.
During the summer holidays my cousin came to my house for the summer, her name was April she was seventeen. I went to Gran Can aria. It was really hot. Every day I got Ice-Cream. When I came back it was my cousin’s eighteenth birthday. The next day I played with my friends that live near our house, there names are Megan, Abby, Tori, Niamh and Katrina. I played with them for most of the summer. Also in summer me and Ava had a DVD rental business. We got eleven euro altogether. It was really fun. On the 6th and the 7th of August me and my dad went to Galway because I needed an operation on my right cheek, there was a small lump on it. We stayed in a hotel for the night; I had brought a film to watch in bed that night. It was called the Goonies. Three years before I had an operation on the same cheek to remove the same lump but the surgeons missed a bit so it grew back again. We left the hotel at about eight in the morning. On the 15th of August my Grandad died. There was a wake at our Nana’s house; I gave everyone cups of tea and biscuits.
When I came back to school I was really happy to see my friends but my three other friends Aidan, Lee and Ruairí are now in secondary school. A few weeks ago St. Michaels (The local GAA team) played Glenswilly. Our school put up loads of bunting and flags but they lost by two points. There is going to be another presidential election on the 27th of October.
My favourite hobbies are playing piano, playing Guitar, playing tin whistle, playing badminton, GAA and soccer. I also like to draw and read and go on my laptop and watch TV. On my last birthday I got a guitar and an amplifier. My sister’s birthday is on the 30th of March 2003. My favourite authors are Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Jeff Kinney, Dav Pilkey and J.K Rowling. I have read all of the Harry Potter books, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and almost all of the Captain Underpants books.
Hopefully it will snow this year because last year it snowed a lot and it was so so fun because our Nana has a really steep driveway at her house, me and Ava don’t have sledges so we used our body boards. It was so so fun because we went to the top of the driveway and we lied on the top of the body boards then we let go, it was so fun because there is a corner near the top and when we went down it we had to skid and drift round the corner but the only problem with that is at the side of the corner there is roses and there are nettles on the stem. Lots of times when I went down I went into the nettles and cut myself. Also when there was snow me and my cousin Aifric had so much fun one night. It was really close to Christmas, the school was closed because of the snow. It was really dark outside so me and Aifric thought that we would play in the snow. We went to nana’s house and Aifric had her coat on like me, she had a Mac in a Bag and I had a normal coat. In my nana’s garden there is a really steep hill beside a tree and we were playing beside there, then Aifric slipped and she went flying down the hill on the snow and went into the air and landed in the grass. I was laughing so much Aifric scratched herself but she was laughing. When she came back up I tried but it didn’t work. Aifric went to her house and got me a Mac in a Bag. Then I tried it and it worked. It was so so fun.
On Christmas day I was so so excited, I woke up at 6:15. We went downstairs and there was so many presents. We took it in turns to open our presents, from Santa Ava and I got a Wii. We played on the Wii for so so so so long. Every Christmas the three houses Mine, Nana’s or Aifric take it in turns to cook Christmas dinner. This Christmas it was our house’s turn to cook dinner. Mum and dad cooked the dinner. At around 5:30 all the guests turned up. After dinner me, Ava, Aifric and Aifric’s brother Ross went upstairs and we played the Wii. By the way if you were wondering Aifric is Fourteen years old and Ross is twenty one years old.
Near New Years Eve my auntie from Newcastle came over for two weeks. While she was here we started a game of Monopoly, I also started to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark. It was really really good.
In June there was a sports day. Me, Aidan, Lee and Ruairí played rugby it was really good fun. We did lots of races and obstacle courses. My favourite races were the long jump, the high jump and the 100m and 200m run.

Hi my name is Alanna this is my first time
Writing to you so I’m a bit nervous. I am ten years old and in fifth class. There are nine people in my family. I have three sisters and three brothers. I live In Ballymore Donegal and go to Faugher school. I love school and have lots of friends.
My teacher is Master Murray he is a good teacher and he will be retiring soon, I will be very sad. My friends are Mary-B, Niamh, Megan, Rebecca, Katie, Maryann, Lucy and lots more.
What’s it like in heaven? I think the idea of the Dear Grace is so cool. The story about what happened to you is very sad. Your mum and dad must have been so sad. What disease did you have?
How about I tell you about some of the stuff I did during the summer, the weather was mostly wet up here in Donegal but I still did a lot. I got a new baby cousin Clara-rose she has black hair and very cute. I went to London for a holiday it was very fun. My cousin came back from Dubai now she is in Australia. I went to the beach about five times. I met a friend.
My little sister Maria started school. Her best friends are Cassie and Eve. She loves school. i have a little brother called Phonsie he is two and will be starting playschool next year.
I live on a farm we have lots of animals a horse, cows, sheep, dog, hens and ducks. At spring it’s hard because animal’s ar born and my dad has to get up at six ‘o’ clock and check them.
I live in Ballymore like I said. I live with my mum, dad, Patrick, Roisin, Aine, Mikey, Maria, and Phonsie. Have you got any brothers or sisters?
I’m so glad to be writing to you. Like I said I’m very nervous but I have to get on. I read some stories in your book they are very interesting, I hope my story will be there sometime.
Some football
As you probably heard Ireland is doing very well in the rugby. St. Michael’s (our home team) lost against Glenswilly (boo). You probably heard about Dublin V Donegal, Donegal lost (no). I’m a fan of Manchester united are you? Ireland lost against whales in rugby. Ireland won against Andorra.
My teacher Master Murray’s eye is sore so we have Miss Cannon teaching us she is very nice.
My sister has written to you before but never won. She is writing this year to and hopes to win.
I try to write to you each break, but I sometimes play Gaelic.
My uncle’s back is very bad, he lives in Scotland and couldn’t come to Donegal in the summer. He fainted a couple of times. I saw my Great Uncle Dennis during the summer, he can hardly walk but he has a great memory. He is very old and has some disease in his blood, it was sad when I had to leave where he lived.
What school did you go to? Where in Dublin did you live? How old were you when you died?
Could you say hi to my granny for me I haven’t saw here for two years now and I miss her. I have another granny called Peggy, she spoils me a lot we celebrated her 85th birthday a couple of weeks ago. My two grandads are dead long ago one died outside the chapel of a heartatack the other died in his house of a heartatack.
A girl called Mary-b moved to our school. She is smart and very nice. She is a good friend.
Did you hear about the gold miners in chilli they were trapped underground for a while? The earthquake in New Zealand was so bad. A lot of earthquake happened.
There is a big recession here in Ireland, and in lots of different countries except from china.
The prize that you is good and your story gets to be in a book.
News
Steve jobs died of pancreatic cancer dell will miss him. There will be a new president soon. My mum hopes Dana will win my dad hopes martin mc Guinness will win.
I love dogs I have one called spot. I have a horse called Jessie she is getting broken in soon, I can’t wait. Our goose is cloaking which is bad because it’s the wrong time of the year. We once had a rabbit that died of a heartatack.
Our school got a green flag this year Jim mc Guinness put it up for us, at the last day of school. It was good fun.
My hobby is cooking I love cooking and when in get older I want to be a chef. What is your hobby, what ever it is I’m sure you’re good at it.
Who came with the up idea dear grace who ever it was it’s a brilliant idea they must be smart. I love writing to you its fun.
Up there in heaven must be fun with all the saints and kind people. Did you meet God yet, if you didn’t I hope you will. It’s lovely in my imagination but I can’t be sure until I’m up there with all you lovely people I hope. Did you meet lovely people I’m sure you did? Could you say hi to my granny because I wish I could but I can’t YET? All the stories in your book are nice I think I would be nice if you could see them.
Halloween is coming and I can’t wait. What are you going to do for it im going ticker treating with my cousins.
I wish I knew you properly but unfortunately I cant, some day I might.
We have an art teacher called Jarla he is class at art and painted our school walls one side the ocean and the other a jungle. It looks cool I think.
We don’t have a big school just a small one but full of lovely people and nice teachers. Its hard for our school to win because we have a small school.

Hi I am William Allen Algeo. How are you? I am 10 years old and I like Pokémon, Bakugan, Dinosaurs, Animals, Sea creatures, Star wars, Bugs and Pre animals. What do you like? I go to Faugher School. I have 2 sisters and no brothers. I have 3 cats - they might die. And I have 2 dogs and a horse. My cats are called Winford Hobby and Squiggles. My dogs are called Roxy and Jessie. And my horse is called Tristan. I live in marbill hill. And my mum has a Volvo which is a car. And my dad owns 3 caravan sites.
Did you go to school? I am going to Raphoe Royal in prior IN 2013. But I go to Faugher National School now. My friends are called Charlie, Daniel and Sam. Daniel and Charlie go to my school. But Sam is in my caravan site. My favorite food is spaghetti. What’s your favorite food? Just in case the year I wrote this is 2011. My house has been done up. We stayed in a house behind our house which is also our house. We have 3 houses. Our house is finished now. We put almost all our stuff in a house that is beside the house that I stayed in when my house was being done up.
At summer I went to Lucky Shell beach for a night. I stayed in a tent. And at the summer I went for a cycle with my dad in Ards. But I cycled into a branch and it hurt. I played with people in the caravan site. I went to school. I had a couple of sub teachers. And once I split my chin opened but that was two years ago. I had to go to hospital
I went on a ferry to Áranmore Island to cycle around. There was like a motor scooter bike race thing going on. I don’t know whey. A girl gave me a chocolate bar. There were some people who got kicked of a ferry. We went on a blue ferry home. And also I once eat lipstick! It was nice. There is an election for president of Ireland. There was lots of oil in the water. Because an oil boat is Leaking. I made a platypus out of blue tack at school. he is called pie. I made 7. I made two for Charlie two for Daniel two for me and one for Jack
G. I am going to make Jack G an anther one when I make the food supplies. Also made a house for our egg laying blue tack mammals. Daniels was smallest platypus sisters. Jacks were the middle kid mine is the oldest kids and Charlie’s were parents.
I went to Africa. It was so much fun. I went to a kids club. I saw monitor lizards, an orange sea slug, centipedes, sand crab and monkeys. I made a bout at the kids club and I sailed in the pool. I made an execappod for an egg. I made sand castles. I ate new desert. I even saw a new type of fanta witch is a type of drink I went on a safari. I have seen 2 lions, warthog, giraffe African elephants, cheetah tons of buffalo and I forget what the rest are called. on the last night they celebrated Rebecca’s birthday when it wasn’t her birthday. Her birthday was the next day. They did it because we were leaving the next day. At the next day we fed monkeys. Then a swarm of them came. My mum slapped a monkey on the hand. One pushed a plate off a wall and it broke. I was also in Egypt. I went to a kids club. Rebecca, a man that I don’t remember and I went across the red sea on a big board. I saw a dead fish in the remains of a pyramid. I went on a glass bottom boat twice at the same place. We can dive in at a certain spots.
We got a new boat. it is a laser fager. It is a kind of big. I like it my aunt came and I got a animal book

Dear Grace
My name is Rebecca I am 10 years old I am in 5th class. I live in Marblehill. I go to Faugher n.s. my friends are Katie, Aine, Eimear, Annie and Kayleigh. I have a brother called William and a sister called Samantha. And a dog called Roxy and another dog called Jessie, Roxy is a Newfoundland and can grow up to the size of a Shetland pony. And Jessie is a cute little dog, Roxy is the youngest dog and the biggest one Roxy is black and Jessie is white and brown. I am the middle child. William is 9 years old. He likes cars dinosaur’s animals and sea creatures and he likes reptiles. He is annoying but can be fun sometimes. Samantha is 15 and is in 4th year she can be mean but sometimes nice. My mum is called Elayne she has blond and black hair. My dad is called john he has grey hair and owns three caravan sites.
My house is getting done up now and there are going to be bigger rooms the house is getting bigger week by week. And my sister Samantha thought there were mice in the house. Now we are in a different house it is smaller than the house we used to be in.
In a mine in chille the miners got trapped under ground because of a small earthquake. Everybody thought they were died for 17 days. But they lived on very little food the miner in charge got out last and i think broke the record for under ground the longest. The way they got out was because they built a machine to get them out called the fenix 2.
And not to long ago the school got new chairs they are much better and they are blue. There was another colour green but they were smaller.
At the start of the year a girl call Laura mc Elhinney was teaching us she was practicing to be a teacher. She was nice and did fun stuff. She put music on jouring art the art was fun. We also made books we won’t be getting them back till after the Halloween holidays. She also works in muffin muckens and at summer camps. When we went to Tory went to the light house and seen seals there was three of them. We went to the town and play at the playing area. After we went home on a boat it was not as bumpy as on the way.
This year jarla a cartoonist is painting the walls of the school there was a contest that who
would draw the best design. The winner gets €10 but Jarla still didn’t choose a winner.
Jouring the summer my dad was in a race called the clipper round the world race. He went to France and another country. When he left the people on the boat crashed into another boat and they sank the boat. Then another time my dad did a race all the way round England.
On the first day of school a girl called Annie came to school she is in 6th class she is very friendly and new.
At Christmas I went to Egypt. I was on a glass bottom boat and snorkling. I had seen a lot of fish. It was very hot the hotel was really big and hard to find your room. The pools were so cold that you would turn to ice. I went to a kids club. We went sailing and snorkling I seen alot of fish and one bit me. I went on a camel they ar really high
At the start of the summer I went to Greece and instead of a hotel we stead in big yachts. We went around Greece and jumped of the back of the boat it was fun.
This year in the X-factor the people aren’t as good as the people from last year. At my sisters birthday she got too gold fish. One of them died Samantha was crying like a baby. Last year we went to Dublin and stayed at the 4 courts hostel. First we went to new grange and then went to Dublin to kilmanin jail it was fun we seen all the cells and then we went to the titanic exhibition it was fun to we got fake pass of people who were in the boat and my person lived. And we seen a big iceberg went the 4 courts hostel and got some food. We went back to the hostel and looked around. After we went to bed at 10:00 but we stayed up and talked all night. That morning we went down stairs and had breakfast I had hot chocolate. That day we went to the dhal there was a debate. We were on TV then. We went to a Viking exibishin and lots more places. On the way back we went to a shopping centre. It was so fun. We even went to Penney’s.
My dad got new ants not that long ago. They are doing a lot of digging.
Last year in Iceland there was volcanic ash at the volcano. The ash went everywhere and the animals were even covered in it. The volcanic ash was going everywhere like rain really black rain.
When Miss Mc ehlinney was here we went to Ards. We went on the nature trail and got bark rubbings. Then we went to the play area and did another thing we had lunch and play for a little while.
There was a flood in Pakistan. I don’t now much about it but it was big.
This year principals are thinking about no homework/ and some are wanting homework I am on the no homework side. I hope there will be no homework. This year there was an earth quick in Hati. When I stay at my granddads house I played on the laptop. When my step granny went to bingo I stay up when she came back she chased me and William up the stairs, at Halloween I went trick or treating and had a bomb fire I scared somebody at the bomb fire.

Dear Grace
Hello my name is Daniel. I have 8 donkeys, 3 Shetland ponies and 3 worms. My dad is working in London to earn money. I have no brothers and no sisters. Sometimes I feel a bit lonely. My teacher Master Murray is going to retire after Christmas. My best friends in school are William, Jack mc and Jack G. I just love animals. I have lots of fossils. I won the computer awards in Faugher twice. My favourite sport is swimming. I am eleven years old.
My summer
During the summer I went to Glasgow for my holidays. I had a good time. Once I went to Glasgow for 16 days. Connor and I had a lot of arguments. When I was back in Ireland I did stuff I like do to in the summer holidays. The best show I ever saw was the Lion King in London’s theatre. My dad left before the summer holidays to work in London. I was really sad. On my mum’s birthday I bought my mum tonnes of flowers. They were all multicoloured. I went to my Cousins Molly and Matthew’s house to play. Matthew is two years old and Molly his 6 years old. My grandad got me all my animals beside some animals I will tell you about later on. Molly and I share them. I went to see the Movie Zookeeper. It was so funny.
My days at school.
On 26th of September. It was Monday and it was my birthday. I did the stuff I usual do. That would be mental math, math magic, diary, reading both English and Irish, spellings. When I went outside to play. I choose a game for William and I to play. On that day William acted kind of like a personal bodyguard. The next day it was my friend’s birthday. He is Ruairí Doohan. He maybe acts tough but he isn’t strong. I am a day older than him. But I am much bigger than him. Today is the 14th October 2011. We have a sub teacher, because Master Murray is in Hospital. Our sub teacher is Miss. Cannon. I think that she is nice. If we get 25 marbles we will get a treat and we can watch a DVD. I forgot to bring a DVD. The big room made a book about animal poems. We are doing a project about the mighty Volcanoes. I like doing the project.
Now for some important stuff about my family and News.
Prince William from England got married to a lady called Kate or I should now say princess Kate. Bin Laden is dead. I am glad he is dead because he killed tonnes of people. He paid the ultimate price. My Auntie Angela is going to have a baby after Christmas. I’m so excited. Gadafai is still on the run and hiding like a timid rabbit but more dangerous. I hope soon that Gadafai will get caught or even get killed. He started the war in Libya. I think he should pay the ultimate price. My dad might come back home for good between November and January. Three of my donkeys gave birth to three foals. I got two female foals and one male foal. The two females are Sarah and Dolly. The male is Gunzallas and he is so small and cute.

Some of the happiest times of my life.
I went to Legoland in London. Every thing was made in Lego even the rides and some shops. I went to driving school in Legoland. The cars were made of Lego. I went to arcade to play Lego games on the machine. I went onto the train and I think it was made of Lego. When I went to the dinosaur safari in Lego, I saw Lego dinosaurs and they were the size of real dinosaurs. My mum and dad liked, it was Legotastic. I went to the gift shop and I got a box of Lego that you can use to make a spaceship from star wars. When my cousin Matthew was born I was over the Saturn to have a new cousin. I was really happy when I found out my Auntie Angela is going to have a baby. I don’t mind if is going to be a boy or girl I’m just happy to get a new cousin soon. I’m just so psyched. On my birthday party we went to the swimming pool first in Downings. I told William to go on my shoulders and he did. Then we started to act a bit like a cowboy in the water. We went to Kidz Kingdom. My cousins Molly and Matthew were there as well. We played different games. One of the games we were playing was kind of rough. It was like cops and robbers but there was no den and no jail. We had a bite to eat. It was delicious.
Now it is time to tell you the names, breeds and colour of my animals
I have 8 donkeys. I have 4 Irish common donkeys, 2 piebald donkeys and 2 donkeys that are crossed between an Irish common donkey and a piebald donkeys. Their names are Dana, Jade, Willow, Jack Gunzallas, Sarah, Dolly and Bell. 6 of my donkeys are black, 1 of my donkeys is grey and 1 of my donkeys is white and grey. I have 3 ponies. All of them are Shetland Ponies. Their names are Jenny, Penny and Brock. Brock is black and white, Penny is dark brown and Jenny is a golden like colour. Jenny bit my cousin Matthew’s finger. I think I might have to teach her some manners our take her to animal school. What do you think? Well even if my animals can be very bold I love them all the same. My cousin Molly used to have a lamb. I didn’t really like the lamb because it kicked me, head butted me and trip me over and I landed in a pile of nettles.
